Utah is a four movement suite for oboe, clarinet, and bassoon trio. Themes from southwestern Native American music form the inspirational basis of the work, with each movement reflective of a different mood. The piece is perfect for a professional or advanced student ensemble seeking new and unique recital repertoire!
Music for Reed Trio
Franz Krommer wrote this Trio originally for two oboes and english horn. Here is a more colorful arrangement for oboe, clarinet, and bassoon. The solo lines of the original oboe 1 part are equally shared between the oboe and clarinet, creating more sonic interest for the listener and more playing interest for both instrumentalists. The lower range of the bassoon also allows for a more expansive range of pitch and color.
The Trio in F Major is a substantial, 4 movement, classical work approximately 15 minutes in length. It makes for a great recital piece as a whole. Individual movements are also quite appropriate as background chamber music for parties, receptions, brunches, etc.

Beethoven's Trio, op 87, was originally composed for two oboes and english horn. The present arrangement for oboe, clarinet, and bassoon is unique in that the melodic lines are evenly distributed between the oboe and clarinet, yielding a more interesting experience for the performers and more colorful listening for the audience. The lower pitch of the bassoon also allows for an expanded range and fuller sound when compared to the english horn original.
This is a virtuosic and expressive piece of music by a great master, and is perfectly suited for a serious recital or recording. The four movements extend over 17 minutes, although individual movements could be successfully performed separately.

This arrangement makes Mozart's entire Marriage of Figaro Overture accessible to a small chamber group. Each of the parts place virtuosic demands on the players, and this is an especially useful piece for bassoonists who all know that this Overture is a staple of the orchestral audition rep. Scored reed trio consisting of Oboe, Clarinet in A (a Bb alternate part is included), and Bassoon.

"Bethena" is a "concert waltz" by the king of ragtime, Scott Joplin. It is characterized by tender melodies, interesting harmonies, and many mood changes offering opportunities for the performers to add interpretive elements such as rubato and dynamic interest. This arrangement will be a perfect compliment to a recital program or party chamber music repertoire. Arranged for oboe, clarinet, and bassoon, it is playable by good high school clarinetists, but also musically fulfilling for professionals.
Be aware that the mp3 is a midi version, so not as expressive as it could be! It does give a good impression of the harmony and melodic distribution. YouTube Link

This charming rag is arranged for woodwind trio consisting of oboe, clarinet, and bassoon. It is perfectly appropriate as a light addition to a chamber music recital or background music at a reception or party. The arrangement is unique in dividing the top melody line evenly between the oboe and clarinet. A wide range is used on all three instruments. This music could be mastered by advanced high school students, but is also rewarding for professionals. Dynamics and articulation suggestions have been added sparingly, and performers are encouraged to take it from there to develop a group interpretation.
Three most popular songs at Yale University are presented here in a creative arrangement for reed trio (oboe, clarinet, bassoon). Included are two fight songs often played by the Yale Band at the Yale Bowl, "Boola Boola" and "Bulldog." In a more reflective mood, the arrangement includes the unofficial alma mater of the college "Bright College Years," which includes the iconic line "for God, for country, and for Yale."
This arrangement has been played many times over many years by the award winning trio from New Haven, Ensemble Festivo. Listen to the mp3 of a live performance by the trio and enjoy!
